The main reason for the worldwide Alpaca
craze, is the fiber, (fleece) that is harvested each year in the spring,
before warm weather sets in. Each animal will produce five to eight pounds
of this fleece a year. Alpaca fleece is a silky natural fiber that is
soft, durable, and luxurious. While similar to sheep’s wool, it is warmer,
not prickly, and has no lanolin which makes it hypoallergenic. Alpaca fiber
is also naturally water-repellent. Huacaya alpacas grow extremely soft fiber
which has natural crimp, thus making it a naturally elastic yarn, perfect
for knits. (Suri has far less crimp and thus is best suited for woven goods,
but is wonderfully luxurious as well). Alpaca fleece is made into various
products, from very simple and inexpensive garments made by the aboriginal
communities and home based artisans to sophisticated, industrially made and
ultra expensive products such as men's suits and women's high fashion
garments from the finest designers of Milan and Paris. Currently we have the
